How much does it cost to update the mapping. Mine is 4 yrs old. Do I bother or Just buy a 660.?

Paddy

Waiting on the 2011 release due this month, better be as Garmin have told me it will be and I'm off to the Alps on the 30th. £53.39 for DVD but I think it's done based on £<>$ exchange rate :nenau at the time of purchase as it's a weird amount even before VAT, if that's the case then the price will fluctuate somewhat.

Ordering via DVD as I have an imported StreetPilot and the mapping install means jumping though hoops. Having the mapping on DVD will be an advantage for that.

Based on what I've read about 660's I'd stick with your 550 until they get the 660 sorted!:augie

If your existing maps are 4 years old this will end up being factored into what someone will pay you for your 550 anyway. A compromise might be a superceded copy from 2009 or 2010 which should come in cheaper.:rob

Except you won't be able to get a legitimate unlock code for mapping other than what's current. As 2011 is due out this month, might already be available on a download update, I'm pretty sure that you won't get an unlock code from Garmin.

What's wrong with lifetime updates for under £100?

Well, for me it's a non starter as I'm not sure how I can do my hacked, yet legitimate and paid for, install with a downloaded update. Added to which; I tend to update every 2 years at best, this time around it's 3 years. Next time around I will probably have got rid of the SP2720.

For life means, 4 years... At 100quid its OK.

I had to download the 2011 version as they are not shipping it on DVD as of yet. (three weeks ago...)

Took 24hours to download with my fast connection. That's after the first twelve when it hung and would not start from where it left off:blast

Zumo

Thanks Guys, some good info there.

Yeah I like the zumo but it does have some issues.
Cheers

Paddy

Hi Greg,
Nothing, but be aware the 2011 update will not fit in entirety on a 550. You need to download onto your PC and just upload the necessary regions.:augie

Might work if you have a large datacard installed

Neil

Managed to get mine on without issue... Downloaded update with Zumo connected, file automatically extracted the update and installed on both computer and Zumo without any problems... :thumb2

On mine I even stripped off all POI, extra vehicles and voices, and it still wouldn't go on:eek:

I'll probably have another go this weekend

Neil

I stripped out the voices, text and vehicles etc, but could not get the latest update onto the Zumo, I had to put it on an SD card.
Will this make the maps slower to load or throw up any other problems?

Part of my problem is I was using a Mac, not too much info around about using the Apple OS software.
