Hi all,

Am doing some research ahead of buying a helmet cam.

Because it's going to be mounted on the side of my crash helmet, I want it to be relatively small/discrete.

So the Go-Pros are out... I'm looking at the Drift HD170 and the Contours... any others I should investigate/consider?

I'm looking to spend around £200 I guess

Anyone got one of the above... or something different/better?

I have a contour
Fits on side of helmet on or goggles
Wide angle means things always look far away even when very close
Perfectly acceptable most of the time when on a motorbike or cycling.
Not quite so good when skiing though for a variety of reasons mainly to do with the head angle which changes when skiing and I get a lot of pictures of headless skiers or a lot of sky
Gopro looks good but not discrete
I discounted the drift for some reason which escapes me as not as good as contour.
Contour easy to mount on panniers facing backwards with a small pad (cloth) and gaffer tape. The gopro does not look as if it would be (I probably am wrong)

This may help - it was a test ride by me Dull but served itds purpose

You're correct, didn't see that. However, with a 10% discount code (there's lots of them floating about: BARON10) you can get it for £270 and when you see how good it is maybe you'll think it's worth the extra £70...?

:thumby:

Thanks all - I might save up the extra and go for the Drift Ghost then :thumb2

For what its worth, I would not recommend a Contour Roam. I have one, it takes decent enough video, however it isn't weatherproof as it claims to be.

I would,

had mine a couple of months and it's great,

the 2 way remote makes it dead easy to see what the camera is doing

the only criticism I have of it is it's low light performance but I believe that is being addressed in a future firmware upgrade

I also got an external USB power pack and it'll run all day when out on the bike

Just bought one of these http://www.blade-cam.co.uk/ initial results are pretty good, comes with lots mount options, seems good value aswell. I've no connection to this company :thumb2 (does'nt come with an sd card tho!)

I have a drift HD which is good image wise but can anyone recomend the best place to mount it on the bike and which mount works best ?

I have tried it on the lower crash bars but heat haze and vibration pretty much rules this out in future !

cant get it on left handle bar as i have garmin mounted there and besideds i dont want it looking through the screen
