Following on from the post by Rich there is the suggestion that the 1200 section be deleted and all techinical posts are raised in the other sections.

The section was there to discuss "Info, photo's, tech sepc.... etc" of the 'new' 1200GS - this requirement has now gone. If I remember it was also under another grouping rather than technical.

What do yo think, delete the section and post in the other technical areas / chat areas or keep the 1200 clique??

I feel that if the 1200 is to be incorporated fully into the GS fold the 1200 section should be deleted.

There's no 1150, 1100 or 'Adventure' section and the 1200 is no longer a new model.

It's a:

GS!

Peter

The 1100 and 1150 are essentially the same bike - the 1200 is almost as different from them as the air cooled engined bikes. And the 1200 riders (lots of ex sportsbike types- what kind of noisy exhaust? where can I get a carbon effect codpiece etc) are very different to the trad BMW rider.

The 1200 section should be returned to its rightful position - first in the list in General Forums. It is the most important section, and about the best GS;)

The 1200 has enough differences to warrant it's own heading. It is a breakthough bike for BMW with a brand new Motor, Suspension and new generation of Brakes. I'm currently riding an rs (03) and looking to jump into the boxer motor cause of the added hp and less vibration. I wouldn't consider the old model as a replacement bike for even a nanosecond. The 1200 merits this attention.

I'm glad my post at least has sparked some useful debate! I must admit it doesnt look well intentioned but it was really :D
But GSMonkey's suggestion came from leftfield for me and I really can't make my mind up.....
I guess its either a 'strengthening' of the 1200 section, and my idea for a 12 mod was nothing to do with poor service from the existing guys but simple that someone with a passion for the 12 might help develop the section (although I am aware that that isnt really the remit, but I've seen it work elsewhere), or assimilation as suggested.
Or perhaps as suggested by some there's nothing wrong with it.
I do wonder tho as Birdseye suggested that possibly there is a majotrdistinction. Perhaps thats what I was really thinking in my intiail ill-mannered outburst ;) . Perhaps 1100/1150 and 1200 is as different as GSpot and Orange Crush over on the other side?
I dunno......:D

Fewest sponsors, dear boy, fewest sponsors.

Please keep the 1200 section! If I don't have time to browse all the new messages I know I can get the most relevant news on my bike by reading the new 1200 posts. As 1150 and Adventure owners are so keen to point out, it's a completely different machine.

Agree entirely with Bonjeroo. But managed to vote 'yes, delete section' when I meant 'yes, keep the section' Doh!

I rarely look at the sections. I just use the "View new posts" option and read the threads that look interesting.

I think there was an argument for amalgamating them when there was a bit of "edginess" between the 1200 and 1100/1150 communities. This seems, largely, now to be light hearted banter.

So I don't feel strongly about whether its kept or not.

Keep the 12 section and delete the rest.

:hapybnce:

.........only kidding.

For the record I have had 2 x R100GS, an F650GS and now my 1200....and a carbon fibre cod-piece is essential on all of them .......and anodised nipple-rings.
:stupid

After the cost buying a 1200 every1 is probably to skint to become a sponsor :D

They're probably saving up for tool kits :D

Save the 1200 section

Keep the 1200 section

Keep the 1200 section, as others have said, it's sufficiently different to warrant it's own section!!

Anyway.. shouldn't the poll be "should we stop people posting about their 1150's in the 1200 section" ????? ;)

I've lost of the number of questions regarding 1200 issues, with a response of "blah blah blah, my 1150 blah blah blah" about as useful as tits on a fish!

(alright alright keep your hair on, i'm only winding you all up, it's a GS forum... if it's a GS i'm for 'em )

Definately keep the 1200 section though, it's nice to know exactly where to look for 1200 specific stuff.

just my two penneth...

Stu. :beerjug:

Rich had a fair point, in that not all 1200 info is in one place.

Should it be? I think that is up to the poster.

I always ask myself, "where am I most likely to draw the information I'm after", or "where would I look if I needed the info I'm about to post"?

If you ditched the 12 would you ditch the 650?

I like it , find it useful as a starting point for my 1200 specific interest and urge you to keep it.

PS, is this response in the right place?

Keep the section. Even though it's the best bike and the red ones are the fastest ;) , the 1200 has issues unique to its build.
Keep this section apart from all of the lucky GSers who can balance their idles:D :D

Keep the 1200 section. its where i look to see if they are any better than when I got rid of mine and went back to a real gs :thumb

Keep the section.

As a recent convert from the 650GS & a relative newbie here I love the fact that you can find 12GS info, chat & some c**p all in the one place :D

On (or should that be 'in' ?? ) the other forums you havn't a clue most of the time what bike the poster rides & whether or not you should take any heed of his warnings/predictions/advice !

And now for the curve ball - what about seperate forums specific to the 1100 & 1150 :D :D

That way they can't say we're being elitist - even though we ride the best bikes ;)
