Zumo 450

Well spotted.

Rugged and ready to ride, zūmo™ 450 is your faithful guide to the open road. With glove-friendly, left-handed controls, preloaded street maps and a sunlight-readable screen, this waterproof navigator is made for motorcycles. zūmo 450 includes many of the 550's motorcycle-friendly features, minus bluetooth wireless technology, text-to-speech and XM Satellite, at a price that won't break your budget.

I wonder what it'll retail at here?

It'll be interesting to see both the price and a full comparison with the 550's specs.

I can see the Zumo 500 at £395 online (RRP of £499.99) at the moment - which has the BT but only UK & Ireland mapping pre-loaded (rest of Europe on DVD). If the 450 has Europe mapping pre-loaded but no BT module, I suppose there might be a slight difference in price?

Going on that, it might become available at £350 or just below :nenau

In neither of the 500 or 450 case do you get the motorcycle mount though, from what I can see :nenau

'as far as I know' inside the box you'll get..

Motorcycle mount with mounting hardware*
Motorcycle power cable

* read as a RAM-B-309-x which comes with 60mm screws for PAN STxxxx or Goldwing GL and U-bolt for 25mm 1" handlebar plus a RAM-B-201-A and RAM-B-202 which attches onto the Garmin cradle.

Onto an oval rail on a 12GS, I say adapt slightly and use a RAM-B-231Z with RAP-319 and build from the arm upwards.

Sports bike riders can soon get a 'new' RAM yoke stem ball mount RAM-B-342 (see below) which may be not interest too many here.

So the zumo 450 is without;
BlueTooth
XM radio
Street name pronounciation
Car mount
AC charger
Mapping DVD for PC
Custom caps and stickers

I'm not bothered about Bluetooth and although Map Source on the PC is nice, it's not essential :D

I already have an unactivated City Navigator NT v9 DVD which came with SWMBO's Nuvi 310 anyway ;)

The 450 with preloaded Euro mapping may just be what I need to replace my antiquated 2610 :thumb

Presumably with an activated unlock code from a previous GPS you could apply for a second?

Is there anything special about the AC charger?

As you don't get street name pronounciation could it mean the 450 is running plain vanilla CN?

If it is like all the other Garmins it will come with the unlock code on a yellow piece of paper, it just will not come with a DVD.
If you have a DVD from another source then just input your unlock code and you are away.

AC charger is 5volt 1 amp with mini USB plug
Should also charge via USB from your PC

Street name pronounciation is part of the firmware.
Does not matter which version of City Navigator it is running.

PS There is a rumour doing the rounds that Garmin may shortly change the ability to unlock a second unit. Units that come with a CD/DVD will be able to unlock a second unit but units with just the software preloaded (no CD/DVD) will only have a single unlock code. No conformation yet.

Yes: You don't need it. Supplied with the 550 is an AC adapter with US / UK /EU wall socket. But it also charges when in the cradle and also on the USB - PC connection. With the at least 4 hour battery, you can run it also on hollidays.

I think this is already the case?

The map that comes with units with preloded map (the NT-map) can't be unlocked to a second unit. Quest2, Zumo, and others. I doesn't matter if a map on DVD is provided or not.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!
