I find myself in the situation of having to look for some more panniers.

I need something I can custom order, or something from a range that I can mix'n match....mainly because I have a wudo lowering kit so can have same sized left and right.

So......Zegas too expensive, Jesses proabbly the closest I can get to Vernatechs, but has anyone who can give a good independant review tell me about Civil's boxes please?

Silver please Civil....flat lids, 10 inches wide, no 'zorst cut-out :thumb ;)

Bill, just to add to the confusion, the Metal Mules can be "mixed and matched".

Well it'd certainly get him some exposure ;)

Oh yeah, being the shy and retiring type who rarely posts he really needs that;)

Seriously though, long term test review from an un-biased person would probably do his business good, where's he going to find such a person?

It's on its way...later tonight apparently ;)

But I'm still willing to consider appeals from the man himself for me to test a set for him and report back to the board......

They are good enough to risk it aren;t they Civil??

;) ;)

a sort of independant review

right :
i have tried the boxes i then got fed up with civil using my bike as a guinea pig so i sold it to him.
i have had reservations all along with different aspects of the panniers but as of the latest incarnation my reservations are all but gone.
I have just sold a touratech specialset that i was quite happy with but looking at the latest caja sahel i am quite impressed.
The boxes themselves are a good shape, and very solid conctruction .The new lid seal works well.
The exhaust extension is a good job, with fitments for remus or std.
The new lids look well and would seem to be functional.
The powder coating looks very good in reality much better than in the photo and gives a smooth and easy keep finish.
the mounting frames seem a bit course, but then they are of a solid construction and should not break like some of the competition.
definitley on the list for the next bike

I purchased a set of Philips panniers which were, I believe, one of the first sets off the production line. The panniers were very good but the frames needed a bit of modification as did the stainless exhaust extention. These points were dicussed with Philip and he immediatly agreed to pay for the work to be carried out locally rather than return them to Ireland.

The exhaust extension was an absolute classic of missunderstanding and created hysterical laughter from both Philip and myself when the photos were E-mailed.

Anyhow, as a personal preferance I decided to have the panniers powdercoated in red on the inside, back and base of each pannier.

I had a exhaust extention made the right way round and had the Noddyfied frames powdercoated in satin black to match the frame.

Everything was refitted and all was fine for Lands End and another trip and then I noticed that a weld on the rear of the panner had split.

I contacted Philip and he insisted that the panniers be returned to him and a full refund plus the costs of the powdercoating was received without any delay.

I was at the time unable to wait for the mk2 version which is now double welded and has the modified frame and purchased a set of TT's as a stop gap. They by comparison to Philips feel very fragile. I shall sell these panniers on later and upgrade to another set of of Cajas.

In my opinion Philip is 1st class bloke to do business with.

What are you waiting for.

You should have no problems selling a set of panniers that you have described as "feeling very fragile".... Doh :D :D :D

Well it certainly sounds like Mr McGonagle is a decent chap to deal with........

Vern contacted me today to say all might not be lost Philip.........If that falls through, I may well be in contact ;)

Noddy you must have had a lot of alterations to do.... two angle grinders!!!!!
