£2.74 (5 litres) oil!

What's a new bike? Is it one of those things you have to run in yourself? Nah - get someone else to do it for you I reckon.

I'd use it in my old beast - and have done! Absolutely fine.

what's Wilko?

10/40? Where do you live where the temperature never goes above 15°C?

No, I use a semi 10/40. Personally, I feel fully synth in a tractor is a waste of money. I used it in my Gixxer 750 naturally!
so your riding a Harley then

So, now you're going to tell the beemer engine has all the refined feeling of a Jap flat four.......it's a bloody 70 year old tractor lump!

A Harley? Now that is a compliment!

I think you'll find that the range is -20 to +20

Sorry! Just quoting the advice in the BMW handbook where it states that above 15°C, it is recommended that a 15w/50 is used.
Still, what do they know?

Yeah - but we never decided if it was sunflower or groundnut.

lol, I'm going for Olive this time round!

Seriously, I'll probably go for a semi 20/50 this time, Morrison's do one at good money. I think it's called 'heavy duty twin', designed for Harley's if I remember correctly. Should make the thing a wee bit quieter!

Although the Wilko brand is still 'calling' at £2.74, and Clarke's did suggest a mineral would be perfectly suitable :bounce1

Bought some Granville 15-50 mineral oil, now decided that perhaps it might be crap! It is API SL/CF, the trouble is the more I read about oil the more phobias I develop. 15-50 seems to be the way to go, as 10-40 only appears to be useable from minus 20c to plus 20c. Ride it in the late 30s and the engine sounded like a bag of nuts & bolts. I'm not putting bike specific oil in it.

Belfast.....last time it was warmer than that was summer 1967 :D

To be slightly more helpful Halfords are doing an own brand 5w 50 competition oil at the mo usually £30 odd for 5 ltrs now 21 quid. Good for a wide range synth. :)
