‘Motocamping’ for the 1st time

I was always very nervous about leaving one of my Hillebergs on a campsite and going out for the day.
Way too many thieving scumbags around nowadays unfortunately.

I can understand that, but (whilst it would ruin a holiday) I take the view that there is only so much you can worry about.

I guess the incidence of theft (though not unknown) is pretty low on half decent campsites.

This is a good tip, 3 pints of lager meant I did get up in the night, but a short walk to the hedge.
You need to get yourself an ensuite. This is the one I'm currently using and recommend. Wide neck, slim for easier packing with good capacity and smells nice.

When I arrived at the campsite a little early, there was a locked gate which meant I couldn't get the bike through it until later, but wanted to drop off my camping gear. I dumped the gear in the field by foot not really near anything and then went for breakfast. About an hour later I came back out and the tent, all the kit had disappeared . A couple of vehicles had come out of the gate since I put it there so assumed it had been pilfered by one of them, then noticed a transit van that had just pulled out. Frantically trying to find the owner of the van as it wasn't moving, I went to the cafe and explained to the staff, and the van owner was there telling the same person that he thought someone had left their gear so put it in his van to bring to the staff 😡.

Normally travelling solo, I'm constantly overly anxious about leaving things anywhere, I stopped at a retail place I knew had loo's a few months ago and put my helmet on the bench nearby the toilets. I came out and the helmet had gone, I eventually found a security guard carrying it away, and I did question his thought process.

It's bad enough with thieves out there without worrying about the do-gooders.

There's a balance to be struck, I think. Which way you go in that balance will depend on a whole range of factors: cash available; how many times you're going to use it; what trips you're going to use it on etc. I used to use a Vango tunnel type (a much cheaper copy of Sy's Hilleberg above) but switched to the Green cone. On the negative side is its weight and packed size but on the positives are the space and the fact that I can stand up (just) to put me keks on!

Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice!

Incidentally ... Symon, how about a short description of the gear you take and how you organise / pack it. Having seen it all "in the field" I reckon newbies especially would find that helpful?
And a pole to help you up with those creaky knees when geting up; :D
