Hi Seahorse

Yep it fail Mot in a London dealership. they did it after coming back from a overseas trip. So to get it passed they bought a new unit for me. I use the old unit but change over for MOT now in Scotland. bike has a 2012 headlight unit which is badly scorched. just easy to swap. 20 minute job. Just may be time to replace with LED unit. will have a new headlight unit to sell.

Back of new unit is different to new unit so wasent as easy to swap HID bulbs, and didn't want to scorch new unit

@SuperTed I've got the same issue with corroded stands - I need to find a week where I won't need the bike and plan to run everything up to my local powder coating place. Mind you, my 13 plate GSA only has 16k on the clock (blame a previous owner who lived in Australia and kept a bike in Cumbria for occasional visits!)

Anyway, here she is - bought last summer, loved ever since. A few farkles - the best being a Samsung Tablet running DMD2. She's had a fairly tough life despite low mileage, with lots of the TET under her belt with the PO. Knobblies likely to be changed for something less aggressive when they've worn a little more. Aliexpress headlight is a pretty good upgrade.

Do you have a pic of the tablet setup?

Have you had an MOT fail for the headlamp? I had exactly the same issue with a blackened reflector but never came up in MOT. I did replace with a low mileage unit but eventually the same happened. I never used anything other than normal H4 bulb by the way. I believe it was a known issue with earlier units made by CEV. It was changed to another supplier at some point but I can't remember when or who. Around 2013/2013 from memory but not 100% sure about that. As for LED, no such thing as a BMW one.
I would agree with you Seahorse I had an F650 08 reg using just a H4 and it scorched. I then fitted a Les Wassell HID and ran it until I sold it and it never increased the scorch. My F700 is a 15 plate ( again std H4) and doesnt seem to suffer from the isolated scorching. All the time I had the scorching I never had an Mot comment advisory or fail though.

I reckon your 700 has the Hella unit, which don't seem to suffer in that way. They look exactly the same but manufacturer is marked on it somewhere.
