I have started to do my own maintenance again and I like to oil the cables,
but are the cables lined with any thing that will swell up if oiled?

also I imagine that if I did oil them there would be oil running into throttle body pulleys and don;t know if this wold case a problem?

Yea - you can oil them but it probably won't make a great difference. Any oil running down from the throttle will eventually just reach the splitter box. From experience, if the throttle is heavy, only replacement cables will solve the problem. Worth a try, though - use something with teflon in the oil (GT85, for example)

From my past experience oiling the cables has made a significant difference producing a silkey smooth action.

Old type cables maybe but new ptfe lined ones - no good oiling them. the stiffness comes when the inner wears through the ptfe on the curves.
Made them worse on my 1150 when I oiled them, renewed and they are brill.
