My 2000 Gs went fouryears ago - the harness was rubbing against the back of the shock preload adjuster.
The bike was still under extended warrenty
The harness shorted out in a big was, err toast.
After waiting four weeks to get it examined in the only dealer for 800km and another six weeks for BMW Australia to make up their mind I was offered a new harness if I paid 50% of the cost - $950- for the harness and $700- to fit it.
It was cheaper than making a new harness so I agreed, only to be told - nil stock of the ABS type harness which I needed, no ETA for new stock, possibly 22/26 weeks.
As I had already waited 10 weeks it was lookinh like 40 weeks for a warrenty repair.
Perhaps.
I was luck enough to find a almost new harness in Salt Lake City and it arrived within a week , less the $200 - including postage.
I took it to the dealer to fit- I didnt know if anything else had been damaged by the short circuit and didnt want blamed for it if it was.
Five weeks later the bike was ready to be picked up, but only after I paid the full cost of the fitting as "BMW only fit new parts under warranty.
So if there is no stock - no warranty.
It has taken them four years to admit there is a fault- hopefully they will be picking up the full tab now.
Might even see if they will pay for the one I had replaced-
Fat chance
