08 GS, new in september, new to me at the end of november, 680 miles on it and I've just noticed a couple of small splits in the material on the underside of the main seat. I'm about 74kg so not exactly overstressing it! Anybody else noticed this? Will post some pics tomorrow...

Had my fist seat exchanged under warranty 06 1200.Now this seat has split so need to ee what can be done about it.
IMHO the material is just too thin.

Hmmm, pretty poor, have had kwaks and hondas before this and never had a problem with them, but on a 3 month old bike? V poor :mad:

got my 1200GS in June, (brand new), went to northern Spain for 8 days hol & had to get the seat replaced as it was splitting at the seam. Bahnstormer did it without a quibble. Now breaking in the new seat. :augie boy are they hard to start with.:confused::confused:

FFS, I think you will be hard pushed trying to blame that grazing on faulty materials. Simply looks like its been dropped or dragged along a rough surface, like when its been put down off the bike. :eek::eek:

Yup, see above :D :eek::eek:

Good luck with your erm Dealer:augie

My 54 12 seat split along the front edges so I just stuck some superglue in the split and that sorted it :thumb2 On a new bike see what the dealer says.

:eek: :eek: Sounds like the voice of experience there. Personally I tend to use my seats on my bikes as opposed to tying a lead to them, calling them 'Benson' or 'Hedges' and taking them for a drag.. :D :eek: :eek:

Thanks Big Lee - to be honest I considered doing the same thing (superglue), but given the bike's only 3 months old I reckoned there'd be no harm in asking under warranty...

Caused by boots?

My seat has some rips as well which are caused by by my SIDI crossfire boots. (The top of the boot chafes against the seat). Does not happen with my other boots as they are not as tall.

Thanks for the super glue tip... I will try this so the split doesn't get worse.

When you put the superglue on pull the material inwards using some tape so it closes the split. Don`t use your fingers :augie

Yes I am lethal with superglue. I have used black silicone sealant (as sold in DIY stores) on my seat. Almost invisible to spot and can be peeled off if you mess it up.

The passenger seat on my 2008 has small splits in it and I haven't even had anyone on the back yet. Maybe the previous owner did but come on, this is supposedly a rufty tufty, go anywhere do anything trail bike that appears to want more cosseting than a shiny 18 grand all singing and dancing Gold Wing.

Well i got a reply from BMW customer services (had included the pics above) and they said to go see my local dealer and it would be dealt with from there. Went to the dealership, they took a bit of time to have a look at the seat and even took the time to show me where the covers on some other seats had failed; filled in the claim and are submitting for a replacement under warranty... :thumb2

Back in the hands of BMW...
