can i replace my standard H1 bulbs with 100w H1 bulbs?
will i burn out the wiring or back of lamp units or can they take it.
i have done this on other bikes but want to check first.
thanks

I think you end up burning the light unit, which is very expensive to replace, as well as the wiring. Though people had done it, and ridden with 100W bulbs safely for a while, but it's definitely risky. At the least, fit a relay for the light switch, and don't use full beam too often.

FWIW, the Osram Silverstar 50% brighter light bulbs always come out very well in tests. Might be worth a punt rather than risk damaging your set up.:)

You can replace with 100w bulbs but it won't be percievably different than a 50% brighter bulb because the reflector design is crap on the 1150, you will be much better off fitting Hella FF50's as auxiliary lights, that does make a huge difference.

You quote H1 bulbs so I assume its an 1150.

NO.........................

You will overload the circuit, and depending on the amount of time spent on main beam will melt the earth terminal on the headlight connector in time!

I ran a 130Watt for many months and it makes a big difference. However there's no relay in the system so all the power goes through the switch.

I never managed to find an answer to the question of what the switch and wirring can take and with a trip plannned that would mean main beam being used for hours on end I decided to fit:

Phillips 50% plus and halfords spots.

I still miss the 130 though and if you don't use main beam that often I'd go for it

Just bought Phillips H7. Gives yellow beam to right side and blue to right if i tryed in garage, shoud be excellent - doesn't bling the ones you're passing and gives a detailed view from roadside. 50% more light too, so it's the same as 120W typical bulb.

Costed 7£.

Highly recommended.

Cheers, Margus

I have 100 w bulbs in my driving lamps, these are seperately wired to any existing circuit and via wires and a relay with 30 Amp capability.
