Do the previous generation gs's "feel" about the same to ride? Reason i ask is i have never riden a bike as upright and tall as a gs and not sure if ill take to it (tho i prob i will) So was gonna have a test ride on a new one to test the water.

Ofcourse that could be a bad move cos i might end up buying a new one lol but atleast ill know if its the bike for me

Also do the differences between the gs and gsa make much of a change on the experience?

cheers, dave :oonyack

They are all boxers....but the engines got smoother with each new generation. The 12s dont have the engine braking of the 11s but is much smoother.

the 12 is lighter and they would all offer something slightly different but beware the seat heights, suspension settings, handlebars with risers and not etc....but if you can ride all 3 then you will have a good idea of what is for you.

A lot of the 12gsa riders rate it above the standard 12 and i think that is due to extra weight...

Give them all a long blast ang and enjoy.

PS dont ride it like a sports bike, ie snatching it, these bikes come into their own when they ridden smoothly, what do i mean 'rospa like' is a pretty good description..but lots of opinions on here...:rob

An interesting question this one.

The GS will feel very different both in terms of riding position as well as engine feel and the loftiness of the riding position to pretty much anything else you may have ridden (This includes other BMWs).

The 1150 does vibrate more than the 1200. Or at least the vibes are of the lower frequency variety. The 1200 tends to rev more quickly and is a little more tingly though this is only an issue at sustained high revs and isn't a real issue in my book.

The lower weight of the 1200 is noticeable too though there are times when the added weight of the 1150 may be of benefit.

I can't comment on the difference between GS and GSA. I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you more about that particular topic!

;)

Can't comment on an 1100 but I've had two 1150's and am now on a 1200 covering around 40,000 miles between the two 1150's and over 40,000 on the 1200. The first thing I noticed on the 1200 was that the clocks were lower that the 1150 :) Other than that the build quality is better on the 1150's but the 1200 is lighter, slightly quicker, handles better and a little smoother.

You can't really go wrong with any of them.

thanks chaps, i think what i will do is have a test on a 1200 gs or gsa at a dealer to see if i like it then take it from there. Hate wasting peoples time but dont mind so much at a dealer hehe :)

They all feel somewhat different

I've had them all - 1100GS's/1150GS's (normal and Adv) and 12GSAdv's

My fav is the 1150GS Adv, closely followed by 1100GS

They got the gearing and torque of those engines spot on, for normal GS type territory

I run an 1100 and 1200GS-A and ride very differently.

The 1100 is nice and steady and the 5 speed transmission makes use of all the torque and the bike just purrs along at any speed you like. I think it prefers to be ridden at a steady pace and it`s as good as anything out there. It also has a real charm which seems to be missing from later bikes.

The 1200ADV is quite different in my opinion. It`s lighter and wants to be ridden harder. The handling is so much better and the power really kicks in at 5000rpm. It`s also very big but you don`t notice it and you feel protected.

I had an 1150 ADV as well before the 1200 and did 30,000 great miles on it. Lovely lazy thing but very heavy and seemed sluggish compared with the 1200.

I love both my current steeds for quite different reasons but they are different.
