1100 fueling and gearbox relationship

Hiya guys been playing around with some of the maps on my 99 1100.i.ve got it running smooth by running a jumper between terminals 30-86 on the metronic but at what fuel cost its too early to tell.more than anything ive noticed a definite improvement on gear changes.why is that?
 
Jumping 86 and 30 will select the low octain mode on a 1100, so it will burn rich and use lots of fuel. Why that makes the your gears change easier I don't know.
 
I would say it's because with the mixture adjustment the revs are less responsive to closing the throttle I.e the revs don't drop as quickly - a bit like riding the bike with the "choke" on.
 
Warmer oil? Fresh oil change doing its job? Should you use a different oil to replicate this in different situations? Lol
