While preparing for a cylinder head gasket change I've just discovered that the left hand throttle body vacuum connection blanking plug is missing (the one used to connect vacuum gagues). It may not be coincidental that this is the cylinder with a head gasket leak....
I'm not sure how long it was run like this (I picked the bike up last weekend - an 80 mile trip home, not used it since), but it probably explains what I though was a slightly rough idle (I put it down to my unfamiliarity with boxers and probably needing the throttle bodies balancing). It seemed to run fine at speed , but I did notice the very occasional slght pop on the overun (but no pinking etc). I've pulled the spark plug and it appears a normal light tan colour with no melting etc.
So I'm currently working myself up into a right state wondering if I've damaged it running without this plug. Anyone have any idea if this is likely
