After catching my 1100gs when it rolled off its side stand (but tore my hamstring in two places) I am thinking of downsizing to a F800gs.

I like the presence of the 1100, its as comfy as it gets, (komfi seat), swore I'd keep it for life only 2 years ago but its a heavy f*****

I'd like a Dakar 650 but it may struggle on a long journey??

Am I going to regret it?

Anyone done such a thing.

800 is more top heavy than an 1100,so don't fool yourself with that one.

Save your money and have a holiday on the 1100,or for putting it right if you insist on dropping it every five minutes:thumb2

My no. 1 rule, bikes heal quicker than humans, so if it rolls off the sidestand / I forget to put the sidestand down etc then the crash bars / head protectors can earn their keep. And my wife understands what to do if we need to abandon ship :augie

Thought about going on one off the BM off road weekends, plenty of laying down bikes and picking them up, and then you could see the difference between an 800 and 1200.

Part of me wants to do more off roading. (gentle stuff). Did a bit on the 1200 when I had it but was a bit precious about it. Then it rotted on me anyway.
Got me 1100 and am even more precious about it.

I suppose I'm hoping for 1 bike that will do it all. Long trips, commuting, light boggling, short jaunts.

In reality I go up Rudland rig once a year with some bods from work. Go on one big trip with some bods from work once a year, go on a little jaunts and commute a few miles the rest of the time. Any of the three (1100, 800, 650d) will do it all.

TDM 900 - Will do all these plus a little light off roading and it's lighter than a 600 bandit at 190kg dry weight.

TDM

Had 2 TDM 850s. Good bikes, not enough range on it for long distances but would do if I aint been bitten by the BMW bug.

Hi
Not sure what you mean by "range on it for long distances" - the reserve on my 1100 comes on at 190 miles for my wifes 900 it's 210 miles.
Good luck with the decision anyway.

Sorry
I was on about the range of the old TDMs 850s.
Was below 150 for me.
