How important is this if you just ride on road. I suppose the oil filter is exposed, but is this a problem?

The reason I ask is I've just taken mine off:blast

Actually, there was a good reason as two of the bolts had broken off (on the same side) and it did wobble a fair bit and I was worried that the other bolts may break.

The bolts/threaded bit themselves have not broken but what they attach to (a muchroom shaped piece of metal) has come away.

Unnecessary on the road, only needed for gravel and rocks :thumb2

I need mine lots....

I had to take mine off with a crowbar as they were all siezed, then cutaway the rubber and get molegrips on the domed head, they did come out easy and replacements are not expensive. All naked bikes have exposed oil filter and engine sump, in fact the GS oil filter is protected being recessed, Bandit and Ducatis have their right behind the front wheel :blast never heard of one being damaged they just rust

took mine off to make oil changes easier, my wife's 1150 rockster doesn't have one! We both have had no problems even when travelling across europe !!
