1100GS cracked subframes??,pics please

just wondering if 1100 subframes can crack if they are overloaded on rough terrain.
i am aware 1150's can and do,so i would like to see any photo's of cracked rear frames so i can reinforce mine prior to powder coating.

Hi Mike,

Here are the pictures I gave my welder to use as a guide to strengthen my 1150 subframe (they are of an 1100). He did a top job which last right up until the bike caught fire a year or so later

Chad of this parish is currently webbing up a spare 1150 subframe for me - I have sent him the same pics...

Being a bit of a welder/fabricator myself I have to say I prefer verns solution of tube bracing as opposed to the flat metal plate variety

thanks mike,i think you have pretty much got that one sorted
my 1100 will eventually be fitted with with a very heavy duty sidecar,so i will be reinforcing everything

Unless I'm missing something, Vern's reinforcement doesn't address the weakness in the two main top tubes at the front?

If you look I think it does, by taking the force directed down and to the gearbox mounts it will relieve the stress on the top tube

gives me something to think about.
i might go for a mixture of both solutions as i will need somewhere to bolt the rear upper mount for the sidecar.so a nice heavy duty flat plate will be bracing the suspect point on the left hand upper frame tube.
