While riding I suddenly lost all power at the wheel. I thought it just popped out of gear, as it happened before. It wasn't that. Whatever gear I selected (except the top one) it would simply not engage, just like being in neutral. Nothing would happen upon clutch release. The only gear to engage and behave normally was the 5th one. So I had to drive home using only the fifth gear, which means I might have severely shorten the life of the clutch as well.

What do you guys think? Can it be fixed or do I need a new one?

Thank you.

you could do worse

than speak to Steptoe, a parishoner of this site for a great job at reasonable prices. He's based in SW15 area just off the A3 by robin hood roundabout

First things first.
Check the gear shift linkage and lever. Make sure nothing is seized and that it is operating (and returning to centre) properly.

Worth this simple check before ripping the bike in half.

As it happens I was thinking of doing just that. I went to him once, about a year ago, and I was very happy with his work.

I just checked and it seems fine. I can put the bike in any gear, but nothing happens, except when in 5th gear.
