Hi All

I've survived 6 months with just searching but can't seem to get a suggestion on this one.

Lately (last 2 months or so) the bike has got slower and slower to start. If I thumb the starter theres a click followed by a few moments of lag then it always starts cranking and fires up fine. This last week the lag has got longer and longer until yesterday it just clicked and nothing. Dash lights were bright but dimmed slightly when pressing the starter. I pushed it back into the garage and then this morning it fired up just fine. The battery is a newish (6 months old) Odyssey with plenty of charge.

Is my starter on the way out and if so is there anything that can be done to fix it? or do I just have to cough up for a new one? I'd read about magnets ungluing but that always seemed to result in just a dead lock one day.

It's a 97 by the way and done about 50K (allegedly…)

Cheers!
Kip.

strip it, clean it and reglue the magnets, one or more of them is loose or falling apart.

Well I ripped it apart and it was in quite a state. The plastic brush holder bit was already badly damaged/full of crap and one of the magnets was loose.

I cleaned/tidied what bits I could and glued the magnet back in place. It fired the bike up 4 times before failing again so I nipped to the place down the road and got another used one and it fired up straight away with no hesitation.
