Yes I know I am back asking advice again, sorry.

After doing the valves etc I balanced the throttle bodies, never done it before but seemed to go well the idle was spot on and but needed to adjust the left side cable a little to get them right.

When I pulled off the little rubber protective cap to put the vacuum hoses on they had a tiny amount of oil in them is this normal?

Cheers once more

Same with my bike, more on the near side if I use the side stand, use only the centre stand, it stops that puff of smoke on start-up as well..

The engine oil breather system vents into the air box. So the input air will have oil vapour during normal running. The vacuum ports on the throttle bodies are at the lowest point so some oil is likely to collect there.

If you look at the rear underside of the air box on the left side, you will find a drain plug. It might be worth undoing it to drain any excess oil from the air box. If you're new to the bike, you have no way of telling if the engine has been over filled during it's life, but excess oil ends up In the air box. The drain plug is a bayonet fit with a fat O ring seal, so quarter turn should see it undone. You should only get a few drops of oil drain out.

I think the drain plug is more for letting water out of the air box after a mishap with water crossings.

Cheers for putting my mind at rest I guess the oil may be due to the fact that this was the first time off in a long long while, will now just get out and enjoy the bike, I have only had it since June but love it even though I have had to do a fair bit to it but most was mainly from the fact that it had not been used for a long while.

I new nothing about BMW's before this one but love the fact that though it may be a little tired alot of the repairs and tinkering can be done by a novice ish mechanic.

cheers
