1150 gs brake calipers

Hi all,
just bought a 04 1150 gs and on giving it a first wash I noticed it appears to be missing a cover from the top of both front brake calipers. Is this the design or are they missing ( I can see the pads and retention clips )?

thanks Luke, Im more used to Harleys and Africa twins and had a wee " holy F**k" moment when I spotted them "missing".

Pads and retaining clips

Thats funny, I can't even see my pads or retaining clips when I'm riding along!
You'll have to show me that trick?
