can any of you guys tell me if all GS's have the high top gear that my early 2000 one does - I like the overdrive affect it gives but am looking to change to a newer bike soon and will need this feature if possible......

Thanx in advance :thumb

I think I am right, but stand to be corrected.

Most standard GSes do. To be certain check that the gear indicator reads E in top. This is overdrive. A few had a sports box similar to an ADV. These read 6 in top.

Mine (03) 1150 shows 6 when in top but I was told it has the overdrive, which I'm not that fond of actually. The sports box is also in the R1150R IIRC which I prefer.
Is there any way of finding out (somewhere written on the bike) which box it has?

Mine's an '02 1150 and I believe it has the overdrive 6th gear. It is certainly a very tall gear. The RID reads "6" in top.

Yep! Mine is an '02 bike and it's the same. It says "6" and it's an overdrive. For my money, it's the one thing I'd change on my GS.

When I ordered my 03 new I was told by the dealer to order the sports box as a no cost option. It reads 6 and not E. Hope this helps, Ricky. :)

Earlier bikes had E later bikes have 6th - it doesn't identify which box you have.
