Anybody got an idea what might be causing this?

3 or 4 times yesterday my engine cut out while decelerating. It only happens when the clutch is pulled in to select a lower gear, which was a bit disconcerting when I was approaching a round about and just about to tip her in:(

Doesn't do it all the time but still, it shouldn't do it at all. I'm riding with a Remus Revolution, baffle removed and Y-piece fitted, not that that should make a massive difference:nenau

Coil packs.

What he said. Pull the coils off the spark plugs out of the cylinder heads and take a butchers. There will probably be corrosion and splitting and all sorts of mean nasty ugly things going on.

Do a search on here and you'll get pictures, discussions, comments and St Eptoe finest musings. Prove it by borrowing a pair from another bike and seeing the smoothness come back. There was a thread a few down from this one singing the praises of changing them. (edit) there it is...

..

Pull the lower secondary plug caps off, and then see how it runs on the two main plugs. You may find it only runs on the one cylinder, connect the lower plug so it runs normally to confirm, or swop the main caps over and see if the problem follows it.

just because they may look clean and perfect doesn't mean they aren't fecked, and it works the opposite way as well - just because they look corroded and split doesn't mean that they ARE fecked.

Cheers guys. I'll have a look at that, the symptoms are exactly the same as mine, year of bike is the same and my mileage is just under 21k.:(

Hi
Exactly the same happened to me on a 2001 1150 Gs
Bike cut out coming into roundabout let the clutch out in gear and it started back up straight away.
About a mth later I was getting it out of the garage turned the handle bars
and it cut out, straightened handle bars and It started up straight away.

Traced problem to wires from ignition barrel to first plug on headstock .
Apparently this is a design fault as wires brake where they are constantly beeing bent.
Dont know if there was a connection between the two faults!"!

Regards
