I need a set. Mine are bent.

Believe this or believe this not, you can't buy a set of 1150 gsa bars at the moment.

Motorworks don't have them and BMW can't get them. They are apparently trying to get a new supplier for the bars and it's going to be months before they are available again. No firm date of availability.

Just thought I'd pass this on. Seems an extrordinary set of events, considering how big the bike is and the fact that parts of the bars are plastic!

The plastic is the bit that bends apparently. So, this thread is a double header.

1 A notice for all that bars arn't available.
2 Anyone every successfully straighten 1150gsa bars and how did you do it?

:aidan

Which part is bent?

Not sure yet but the left side feels off. Or maybe the right is too high. I havn't taken them off yet.

I'm awaiting a new rear shock and have put a halt to my investigations of funny handling until it arrives and it's fitted. Bike has been dropped on a number of occasions and I can see a slight warp in the bars.

What plastic bit are talking about ?don't recall any plastic being part of my GSA bars.Andy

News to me too. I'll put a photo up soon but on mine the bars are a three part construction. The middle bit and then the two side bits. connecting the three bits are plastic inserts apparently. I'll get a pix up hang on.

The piece in question is just below and to the left of the abs button.

Funny handling.................in what way?

Is it different to any other 1150GS/1150GSA that you have ridden

My 2 are slightly different in the handling stakes......................but not 'funny'..................I prefer the one with Ohlins over the other with Wilbers

I bent my bars when my bike had a lie down on a ferry in Scotland (1100 but I believe the same bars as the 1150).

The inner spindle on the left hand rubber mounted but got bent downwards so that the two little flanges were squeezed together and the little rubber mushroom between them squished out of place. It's almost always the rubber mounted bar ends that bend - the rest of the bar is pretty strong due to the brace.

What it should look like (the other unbent side):

I took them off, put the bent end in my vice and leaned on the bars until everything was back in alignment. While they were off, I rubbed them down and gave them a couple of coats of satin black hammerite - very simple to do and they're good as new now :thumb2

Thanks Matt. I expect I'll be looking at this at the weekend if the shock arrives.

Bike got hit from the front by a reversing car and I'm still sorting out the damage...and yes it's different to the way it was before...much better than it was after the 'hit' but not right yet. I'm a bit of a perfectionist:hide

I'll update this in due course but for now I'm satisfied that there is a solution to the problem that dosn't require buying a set of touratwat bars because the bmw ones are out of stock.

The idea of the new bars, was that if with new bars on and she still feels off, the forks might be a bit bent. It's a process of elimination and the rear shock is the next step in the process. The thing that worries me is where does it end if I don't get the bike the way i want it. Anyway instead of going :pullface:pullface I'm going to be methodical and get to the bottom of it.

Thanks gang.
