OK, I'll post this as a potential source of information for anyone interested.

My 1150 has a few bits fitted which are not standard (all declared on the insurance of course) and I decided to fit a Power Commander to have things running to their "optimal" levels.

Took the bike down to Brian at Mototech to have a custom map made up on his Dyno. personally I'm not after top end power (although we had a little fiddle and got a map for that as well:augie) and the graphs show the results.

Personally there are so many factors which can influence the results of a Dyno run that I don't go with comparing runs on different bikes taken at different times on different dynos but on the same day on the same dyno I think they are a useful tool.

Right the bike, 2004 1150 GSA, 11237 miles on the clock, Remus y piece, Akrapovic end can (baffle removed) K&N air filter and Wunderlich power snorkel fitted (all bar the end can came with the bike when I got it honest:D).

First off a base run with no Power Commander.

Pretty much confirmed the suspicions that the changes made had left the bike running lean (although I never had the chance to run it as stock), the air fuel graph showed that the fueling was off the scale and no where near the optimal fueling indicated by the dotted red line.

After mapping the results showed the difference that had been made.

So much for the rolling road, is it noticeable on the real road with the good old arse dyno? Well I have to say yes the bikes smoother, crisper off the throttle and IMPO even more enjoyable to ride, but of course that's all subjective.

Having got a map as I wanted it we went on to see what could be done for top end power, got to be honest not something I'm looking for but as it was on the dyno and the bits I wanted to fit were in the top box we gave it a go.

As you can see the increase in top end power came at the cost of a reduction in torque , as torques what's important to me I'll be running with the original map but if for some reason I want top end I can easily load the map and make the physical change to the bike, what that change is I'll let anyone who wants to have a guess for now. :augie

See i like power commanders, i love fiddling around with stuff... but how come for the bmws the prices seem somewhat.....:blast

I paid £130 for my one for the kawasaki ... new!

Unless im looking in the wrong place?

A nice impressive gain though.

The 1150 version is the all singing all dances wide band USB unit which comes with it's own lambda sensor to replace the one on the bike, but at a price:blast

The newly released version for the 1200 does not use the bikes lambda sensor and is about £100 cheaper.

Of course if you were to buy from the USA even with the now woeful exchange rate....................:augie

are they much cheaper for you guys to buy over there?

Cheapest i can find over this side is £300 delivered.

Mine came free, from Dynojet...:augie

They needed a bike to put one on & test, when they first started to bring them over from the US. They ended up with my bike, 'cos I'm only a few miles away from their HQ in Garstang & they'd seen my IOMTT video.

I did a report on mine ...here...

I've ended up changing the final drive for an R1100S one since, to gear it up & reduce the need for frenetic gear changing, as it used to zip through the revs like a 2-stroke.

thanks paul... i think ill be going for one :)

Ive also been looking at cams and a full akro.... but i really think i need to get mine actually running first.... :augie

Id like to spend a little (meaning alot) on getting it eventually up to around 100bhp... i know its pretty pointless and should just buy the 1200... but who cares!! :D

I love playing around with the laptop and bike so will get one on order i think. Out of interest... anyone know if power commanders are cheap over in aussie land? My mrs if off there tomorrow for 4 weeks so could get her to bring me one back!
