Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of rebuilding the standard shocks on a 1150, are special tools needed etc. I think I have a supplier for the seal kit so thought I might give it a go if I can get it apart. Any help/advice would be gratefully recieved.
Bob.

After 40,000 miles I felt my 1150GSA was wallowing a bit on fast corners.

I had Wilber shocks fitted front and back.

Bl**dy marvelous!! Bike tracks straight and true and corners maybe 10mph faster.

5 year unlimited replacement guarantee.

I'm well chuffed, me!!:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

£675 - pricy but well worth it IMHO

the main problem with the rebuild will be recharging the gas if it has it in if they are a pure oil and no gas then once the main spring is off it would be a question of taking apart refilling with the right weight of oil and reassemble it all sounds so simple but with best laid plans and all that:augie

if your just changing the springs, its quite easy, i made a compressor, never tried a seal change ,theres quite a few firms that will charge it wi gas, just do a search, if u get the job done, mail me with the seal sizes:thumb2:thumb2

If its possible Im sure Bob can do it!..And if he does Im making him do the ford crossing time and time again until he does mine :augie

tried to find an exploded view of the internals but no luck..what we need is an old one to strip down and use as a test shock.

i do know , there isnt a lot of gas in them, the oil does the work

I can get it recharged if there is gas in it. Someone I know has rebuilt a few shocks including one from his Honda RS125, (race bike), and I know its possible to rebuild the standard shock but like I said earlier I don't know if I need special tools, if there was gas in it and also oil quantity and type.
Mike, if you could find an exploded view that would help immensely.
Bob.

prob wont find a diagramm, bmw say its not rebuildable, try on adv rider, ???

just because bmw say you can not do does not make it so the shock has been put together once so it can be taken apart but there might be "one use fittings" that have to be replaced or parts that have been machine crimped for assembly once a way has been found around these situations then things can be done what would you rather sell a recon or a new one:nenau

They can be rebuilt. Not like the earlier BMW shocks where you needed three fecked shocks to end up with one usuable unit.

But seeing as it only costs me £40 to have them rebuilt with new seals and oil, i'll happily let someone else buy all the specialist tools do all the hard work for me :D And with a years guarentee :augie

shocking!

Steppers,
Who does them for £40? is it you? come on own up:D
If so is this each or for the pair?
Is there any value (handling wise) in fitting after market springs like say Hyperpro?:nenau

:

It's what i pay as trade. I don't offer it as a service to others , just for my own ( and very very close friends) ohlins and standard shocks.

Steptoe, do you notice a big difference putting a rebuilt standard shock back on? Looks like I have found someone to do it for me at a reasonable price, I will hopefully have a look and see whats needed so maybe do it next time.
Thanks for the offer of the shocks Bilco, I will post later in the month if I have anything worthwhile.
