I've had so much free advice form this site I figured it was time to give something back.

With that in mind, here's a video I made today showing various exhaust options for your 1150GS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1mZ8UnKT6o

Options covered include:

- Stock collecter Box and Silencer
- Stock collector box with 'stubby'
- y-piece with aftermarket silencer (in this case a Carbon Can Co, but sounds exactly like my old BOS or Laser)
- y-piece only (would sound the same with the 'stubby' fitted, so you can see why people suggest against it!)
- headers only (just for fun)

Hope it's helpful to someone!

Oh and in case anyone wants to know, I've reverted back to the collector box and stubby - not too loud, the best sound and ditches the dead-weight of the stock silencer.

Very swish:D Thought i had the sound muted for the STD can:augie

Stubby sounds good and I tried a Laser on my 11 but it was too loud. A builder was working several miles away on a still day in Shetland and thought "oh, that'll be Guy then" as I gunned it down t'road:augie

Did anyone else think that without the exhaust, when it was idling it sounded like one of those old grey Massey Ferguson tractors? :D

Serious question but did any of these affect the performance? Only reason I ask is because I once changed the exhaust to an illegal (loud) one on a Yamaha I had years ago. Hell it sounded good, but the performance dropped like a stone - not that it was ever brilliant to start off. :eek

With my old BOS exhaust and y-piece setup, the performance was actually slightly rougher.

Both the more recent Carbon Can Co silencer + ypiece setup and the current CAT + stubby set up seem to run just the same as stock, no noticeable difference or certainly no noticeable improvement.

Never done any ECU mods or anything, i've just always run the bike as stock.
To be honest for me it's just to make it sound/look better. Perhaps that's a bit shallow, but there it is! :thumb

They usually rev more freely but may lose some mid range torque. My experience of 11's is you usually have to balance the fuelling to get a good full range effect. 1150's? i have ridden a few with Y piece/Remus and it sounded good and revved OK but new bikes are always tight so you will get a freer engine naturally through the 1st 30k at least.

The STD cans are restrictive for noise/emissions (cats) and are usually fuelled accordingly. Cue search on chips, CCP's etc:augie

I tooked the stubby out in less than 100 km. Sound was awful on road. It was okay in garage with walls adding little echo to voice but on road it sounded like horny frog. Also it felt lazy on 5000rpm+.

Does anyone know how do GS1200 can fit to GS1150. There are some really good looking cans for it.

I've not had any performance issues at all with my stubby - in fact, slightly smoother if anything.

Wish I'd done the y-piece with the stock silencer, but it's wouldn't fit on.

I had a Motad y-piece but i sold it not having even tested it. I quess I´ll be going stock then.
