1150GS exhaust

Folks, I have a Y piece and a Remus can on my 1150, I want to put on a cat and stubby. The lambda sensor has welded itself into the Y piece. Do I cut the wire and splice in a new sensor for the cat, or can I discard the sensor completely? What would the implications be?

I think it's definitely needs be in place, they are normally pretty darn difficult to remove.

Second hand item may be another option if you can't get it removed.

I assume you already have the Y-piece off the bike? If not I have always undone the plug whilst the cat or Y piece has been off the bike.

If not the tank needs to come off and the plug is normally attached to the right hand frame just forward of the battery/ ABS etc

The O2 sensor was removed from my 1100 when I got it. There is a CCP (Cat Code Plug, looks like a relay) in the under seat fuse box that tells the motronic ECU whether or not an O2 sensor is installed. Colour of this CCP depends on the model of bike, and whether a CAT and/or O2 sensor is present.

I dont know if its the same for an 1150, but on mine, with no cat or O2, its set to take the fuel mixture calculation from a screw-adjustable co-pot found on the right rear side under the seat.

wittymoniker, listen to steptoe and take what I said as specific only to the 1100.

Just get a new second hand lambda sensor its only a plastic clip to undo up under the tank by the head stock (its large and circular). Your more likely to damage the sensor trying to get it out if its seized in.
Incidentally I wanted to change back from a y piece to a cat on the outfit....the sensor had seized itself in there two....12 years in the cat and it came out no problem, 2 years in the y piece and it seized...go figure.

I doubt the CCP would bypass the lambda sensor, the motronic depends on it fuelling...so without it it goes into a limp home mode.
