1150GSA gear indicator

Help please.

On run today my gear indicator started playing up. First , neutral and second gears shown as 0.

3rd gear shown as 3

4th gear shown as 4

5th and 6th gears still shown as 4

Bike was very clean at start of day and very unclean at end of day. Usual wash and brush up and now the gear indicator seems to be counting correctly again.

I am not technical at all, don't even know how the indicator picks up it's signal , so please can anyone advise me what might be wrong ?

Maybe 5th and 6th fell out ?

The gear indicator switch is just behind the swing arm (or infront depending how you look at it ) and if it gets a good soaking it will show the wrong gear selections. Mine did it after I washed the bike, and it took a couple of weeks to dry out and revert back to normal. The second time it did it I removed it and sprayed it with water repelent, it hasn't happened since.

Its no.15 on the diagram and a bugger to get out and back in, due to a verrrrry anoying spring clip.
