Hi,

I'm sure this thread has been raised before, but I'm considering :confused:changing my 1150GSA for a 1200GSA, why, well only because I want a newer bike with lower mileage.

The 1150GSA is fantastic, :thumb2far, far better than my previous 1150GS and is just a bike you want to get on and ride to wherever>>>>>>.

So my question, the 1150's appear to be the last truly engineered BMW, the newer models and 1200's look to be more of a snap together manufacturing process, so who's changed from 1150GSA to 1200GSA, was it worthwhile, is the 1200 any :bounce1better or :mcgunworse?

I know some will say the gearbox and engines are smoother, somehow I like the 1150 being a bit agricultural, but is that all the difference is?

Here we go.........watch all the luddites come out. Think I`ll get my slippers, grab a cold beer, settle back in the chair and follow this thread closely.:aidan

I`ve had both and the 1200 is a much better all round bike. In short:

More power
Better handling
Faster
Lighter
More weather protection
Built like a brick sh*t house
Looks like a helicopter gunship
Better residual value
More bling

Nothing wrong with the 1150 though and if you want any of the above, take the plunge. I`m only round the corner from you so if you want to put them side by side, pm me!

Thanks for the offer,

That's ticked a few boxes, however is the 1200 GSA really any lighter and the residual value seems to be slipping?

1) Looks like a helicopter gunship
2) More bling

Those are the two attributes that decided it for me, for :clap

Yep it is lighter (30Kg) and you can feel it although it`s still not a lightweight by any stretch of the imagination.

I`ve seen used ones sell for silly money as any modern bike will. If you watch the ads, 1150 prices are coming down because there are more of the newer 1200`s available as a used buy. This is how the market always works when later versions of a vehicle becaome available and it doesn`t matter how good the older version is, it just doesn`t command the same value to a "normal" punter. I know about these things as I sell things for a living and done all the analysis over the years.

It doesn`t mean the 1150 is bad, it just means they ain`t worth as much.

Anyway forget all that, you really do want a helicopter gunship in the garage don`t ya?:mcgun:mcgun

AAMOI is the 12GSA really much lighter than the 1150GSA? i know the GS version is, but it's not clear with the adventure as the weights are given wet and they have different size tanks :nenau

I went from an 1150 GSA SE to a GSA12, and I love the 12!! I saw my old SE at the Brecon beacons when I did the off road slkills a few weeks ago and it did look fantastic and made me wish I'd kept hold of it.But to ride the 12 feels lighter ,I thinks handles better and feels more planted at the front.I've rolled the bars back ever so slightly so its more comfortable for me and I must say I find it a joy to use. They look better Dirty so thats good news and so far its been reliable. The Brakes are better being non servo ABS ,and I do like the Helicopter battleship thing!! I think you'll like the 12 after the 1150,but if you have an SE keep it ,as its the nicest looking GS i think:bow

I've never owned an 1150 but have ridden a few

The SE is a very pretty bike and the one that I would buy if I wanted something more 'retro', not a bad thing of course, but not me at the moment.

I sat on James's SE at G.C.'s place and was amazed at the low seat height, I know he had the seat lowered a little, but there was a big difference between the 12gsa and the 1150SE.

So if you are short of leg i would have a good play on a 12GSA before deciding:nenau
