Hello all, please forgive me but I'll cut straight to the chase... I recently bought a 2004 1150GSA, after a 50 mile stint on the motorway stopped to refuel, went to restart the bike and found the starter button (the grey round bit I seem to remember!) had vanished! Thankfully, a careful poke with a Swanvesta was all that was needed to restart the bike. So, my questions are as follows;

i. Is it possible to buy a replacement button without having to fork out for a whole new switch assembly?

ii. If so, from whom?

iii. If not, are the switch assemblies from the other R1150 range the same, and so could I use a second hand alternative?

iv. Any other suggestions?

Many thanks for your anticipated help

have a look in flee bay there was a right side switch ass on there a few days back

This happened to me on my R1100S Boxercup ... second-hand switch gear assembly from http://www.motorworks.co.uk/ and then I disassembled the switchgear and transplanted the button AND SPRING (you need that, too!) into the existing assembly ... donor switchgear was an 1150R, I think.

Complete removal and replacement of the switchgear is a bit more of a pain as there is a little bit of wire routing and ensuring that nothing gets caught when the forks turn ... new switchgear isn't cheap!

There are instructions somewhere on how to disassemble ... its relatively simple until you get to the last screw which is located behind a silver sticker.

Good luck.

You probably have the later switchgear,ie no light on/off switch.
If you do buy a complete switch assembly to fit,make sure you get the right one.
Early ones had the lights switch.
Welcome t'forum BTW.

Thankfully, the garage where I bought the bike has agreed to fix it under their warranty at no charge to myself, which is a sigh of relief as a new one does seem rather costly!

Thank-you to everyone for your help,
