Just read in GSpot on ADVrider that someone has fitted an 1150 swing arm to an 1100 so they could fit an 1150 rear shock.
Said that the arm went straight in.I didn't think that was possible as the castings were different.
I originally thought " useful info" but i'm trying to think of any drawbacks.
Anyone help me out here?.

you're trying to think of any drawbacks... I'm trying to think of any advantages.

Aren't the two virtually identical? or do you really mean the longer GSA strut.

1150 arm looks an inch or so longer = better stability and roadholding ( allegedly )

gotta say - i didn't think it'd go straight in though ?

gotta link ?

No,the alloy swingarm itself. The 1100 has a different type of mounting for the rear shock.Basically its a way of fitting an 1150 rear shock onto an 1100 that i didn't think was possible.

I've an 1100 gearbox and an 1150 swingarm in the workshop, i'll see if they fit together tomorrow. :thumb

But not sure what shaft you'll use with those.

OH could this be the start of a Steptoe Special... highly sought after trick GS built by the Guru Two grand extra over standard but you'll get special Steptoe Logo and paint scheme, this will be fully kitted out and ready for any RTT* adventurers

Happy New Year

Steppers? Did you happen to find time to try this? I'd be very interested to know the result re. a little project I have in mind.

Did you know there are two types of 1100 GS swing arm

not many people know that ;)

Oh, I for sure didnt know that. :bow

Is there only one sort of 1150GS swing arm? and if so, would it or could it be made easily, to fit to a later 1100GS gearbox.

I think the swing arms (1100/1150) are of different widths but the difference is small and can be accomodated. True?

No. Nothing to do with colour - 1100 have two different castings.

See a lot of different bikes over the years and you'll notice :D

The pre 96 square edged ones and the post 96 smoooooter edged ones :thumb

The reason for awakening this old thread was to find out (as per post 8) if StEptoe ever got round to finding out if an 1150GS swing arm would fit a late 1100GS gearbox.......... or if anyone else knows?

TIA :thumb2:thumb2 Nick

Nope - the early 1100 type ( both smooth and square type)

And the the late curved type, looks identical to an 1150 swingarm apart from the shock mounting point. :D

Some more advice passed on free of charge without any flowery thanks sought :augie

And tomorrow i will see if the 1150 swingarm fits an 1100 gearbox ( i forgot to check last time).

My 1999 1100 was one of the last made (3 weeks before the 1150 was launched) and the swinging arm looks nothing like an 1150 one :nenau

1100 swing arms are nothing like the 1150 swing arms, never have been and never will be.I've got one of the first 1100's and one of the last 1100's and neither are like the 1150 ones.

So there:P
