12 Month old bike on its 3rd battery ??

Mine was doing a similar thing but not to the same extent. I generally use mine daily and it is fine. Recently with a wife about to give birth I have started working from home and 3-4days without use it was almost impossible to start it.

Replaced battery thinking 13 plate the battery is old and well done, how wrong was I.

It turned out to be my Biketrac causing the issue and the fact it was polling 6-8 times a day and the poor phone signal in my garage. It was taking so long to send the signal the unit was draining the battery, never anything major as it never tripped the low battery alert, but enough to stop the old girl from firing.

Quick call to them and they diagnosed the issue as above and made some changes and hey presto , bike still safe and now well charged.

I guess short version, unlikely to be the battery or the stock bike, it's going to lie in the accessories. If really is the bike, I'm going with the canbus not shutting something down correctly

Hope they find it and you can share the outcome.

Good luck

Battery dying

On 2015 GS battery died after standing with Sat Nav mounted after about 3 weeks. Dead nothing 6V, not good. Took it out and charged it, put it back, took sat nav off and over similar periods not seen same problem till i left it on for about 2 weeks again. Dead battery, down to 6v again. Seems like not a very good cell so will chase a replacement. Measured the current draw with and without sat nav mounted and seemed the same but at around 60mA seems a bit high given batteries relatively low capacity. Anyone know what the static current draw should be?

At 60 m/A (0.06 Amp) drain, a 19Ah battery will last for 13 days at best before becoming completely flat.

Do you have an alarm or such fitted?

The drain seems high but I am not familiar with the R1200 bikes.

My R1100RT only drains 2 m/A due to the Clock being permanently connected.

Do you have a USB power unit (12v to 5v DC) e.g. for Satnav, permanently connected across the battery and not switched Off/On by the Ignition?

I had problems with my 2015 GS
In the end it turned out that BMW were fitting inferior quality batteries. Many people had this issue worldwide
It may of course not be the case with yours but look in the battery compartment. Does the battery fill the compartment completely or is it sitting on a big block of foam rubber?
The inferior batteries were not as big as the proper ones.
Battery was swapped for a proper big one on my bike and iv'e not had an issue since

Vines = useless.

Like selling bikes but not a lot else in my experience.

I also discovered that their knowledge of the bikes they sell (in my case LCRT) was somewhere patchy and zero.

After-sales attention from sales team non-existent. Service department disinterested.

Otherwise, they're excellent...
Completely understand that you have good reason to be dissatisfied with Vines. I'm not mentioning names but when you slag off a dealership on here you always seem to have people come back and then slag the OP off for daring to express an opinion...........Hope you get it sorted........

Discussions seem to be centred on looking for parasitic drains which may possibly be part of your problem but I think there may be an issue with the charging rather than discharging side of things.
It should not require 24hrs to get the battery back up to full charge.

I would also try to swap out the charger-borrow a mates and see if charging times are similar.

The alternator should kick out sufficient juice to run lights and grips. Even my old'un outputs 760w IIRC

Cant say i'm overly impressed with Optimate's either...

All the bull about desulphating battery's and bringing them back from the dead...

My 2 year old standing bike battery it recharged, and after 24 hr's proclaimed had passed the cycle & maintain tests.

10 minutes later and 5 prods of a starter trying to start the old bike... it was flat.

Now it shows a failing cycle hold charge .

So i purchased a brand new Yauasa battery filled it full of acid, left for 30 mins and low charged to full...

Approx 7 hrs.. and guess what, Optimate failed it for not maintaining a cycle charge..

I put it on my current bike to top that up, and its saying that one is also not holding a cycle charge

Both battery's, and one not even a day old... i think the Optimate is shagged!!

3 batteries in a year count yourself lucky some have had 3 new engines in a year :D

Do they come with new batteries?..... might be a trend here.

I use an Aldi/Lidl hooked up via an Ctek lead which incorporates LEDs to show voltage level, it claims to do the conditioning thing and so far (6 years plus) has been brilliant - not bad for a 3.8A Ctek Clone @£13.99
