I have both a 2000 1150GS and a 2009 1200GSA. The gearing on both are worlds apart. The 6th or E gear on the 1150 is perfect for low rev high speed driving. For example 4000 revs on an 1150 gives you a speed similar to 5000 on the 1200.
I would rather have the 1150 gearing on the 1200. I assume this is either next to impossible or really expensive.

Different engines and power characteristics. The 1150 is shy a few revs and ponies but the torque max is lower in the range. 1200 revs more has more power and max torque is higher in the revs. Basically if you geared a 12 the same it would struggle to pull the gear while loaded. It would probably use more fuel and probably in general not be that pleasant to drive.
You could look at what the ratios of the RT and such are. There may be something that gets you closer to what you think you want. It will cost you but it's not a hard job to swap and FD.
Oh make sure it's nearly year for year as the speed sensor ring changed on some years and one doesn't work with the other. Best do a bit of research on the before buying if you still want to.

I have just swapped a 2001 1150GS for an 11 reg 1200GS and the first thing I noticed was how the 12 was lower geared than the 1150. Particularly in 2nd gear where the difference is very marked. However, the 12 uses less fuel when ridden the same as the 1150 so it's just a case of getting used to it I guess!
