Hi,

As retirement looms we are considering using a combination of a VW Transporter with a GSA in the back. I have been told it can be done and just wondering if anyone here has done it successfully?

The screen needs to be removed and the GPS mount rotated round.

There is a good You Tube Video which also suggests it works but would like to hear your experience. Also how did you lash it down?

Thanks

Yes. (But a 1250 GSA). I struggled a little on my own, but it was made easier with two loading ramps strapped together. Ratchet straps in conjunction with a front wheel chock. I removed the mirrors too. My Transporter (T5) is a standard one, with a 'normal' height roof. Hope this helps.

If it is a real one with the engine in the rear you will run into problems...;)
I would get myself a motorcycle trailer or better a Mercedes Sprinter with the V6 diesel...More room and more power to haul the extra 300 kilos around...

i know it's a different bike but my Multistrada 1260 which I think is as tall and as long went into my Vauxhall Vivaro short wheel base with the screen and mirrors removed.

Fit remote control boat winch in end of van, will be more easy to pull bike up in van, and slowly take out.

I am in a similar situation. As a short arse, load height will be a factor for me. At the moment the Vivaro seems to have the lowest deck height but I need to do some more research.

Will fit.
SWB - just
LWB - easy
HOWEVER - mirrors off is needed along with screen, don’t need to touch satnav mount.
Two ramps or a nice wide one and make sure you attach it the the van door latch/towbar/chassis or it will fuck off sharpish just as the rear wheel goes in. DAMHIK
Moved mine twice last week in a LWB Vivaro - second time to the dealers until such time as every single little issue the bloody thing has is fixed this time. It’s not coming back until it is or they’re keeping it!

Sorry to hear that. I was there with my first LC. Took it to Vines, gave them the keys and told them I never wanted to see the effing thing again and walked out. Three days later they called........

I've just bought a '63 Transit L1H1 - I wonder what I can fit in it bike-wise?

I wish I'd had it when I did enduro racing with my KTM 525EXC RFS!

If I fit a tow bar can a ramp be secured to it?

The guy who bought my 1260 Multistrada had a swb Transit, similar size to my Vauxhall Vivaro and it went in the back no problem with the screen and mirrors removed.

I've had several bikes in the back of my Vivaro which is of a similar size and height - BMW C650, Multistrada 1260, Hyperstrada 848, Tiger 800, 790 Duke etc.

I think there's no problem with length or width and it's only mirrors and screens that could need removing.

I hold my ramp in place with a bungy strap and never had a problem.

Thanks for the info.

Had a 1200GSA and an XR1000SE in my Transporter T5 recently.
GSA in first, front right.... XR in last, left and towards the rear.
Both bikes went in forward facing.
Four ratchet straps on each bike.
Drove across France, Spain and Portugal to Porto, they didn't budge an inch.
My van though is a T5.1 LWB with medium roof, so screens stayed on the bikes, just removed the right hand mirror of both bikes.
