Hi All

Does anyone know [other than fund raising for BMW] why they do not/will not carry out a 12000 mile service early. I am in the position wherby I have reached 2 years but not done 12000 miles. I have 9000 miles on the clock. For warranty validation I will need a service and thought I might be able to have the 12000 service done early. My dealer is telling me that BMW do not recommend this. They are saying I should have an annual inspection. Other than the obvious revenue collection [call me a cynic if you like] does anyone know a genuine reason.

It's your bike, your paying the bill so you can have it serviced whenever you like :nenau

I'm in exactly the same position as you. I'm having the annual with brake and gearbox oil change. Price quoted: £260

I'll probably just about do the 3k over winter, so it'll have the 12k in spring. My choice.

Annual service confusion

My 12GS is two years old this month and has 9k on it. I was concerned that it needed an 'annual' but after confirming that Vines did a Brake fluid change in September last year, Bahnstormer say it doesn't need an anual this year as they change the brake fluid every other year, i.e. end of year 1 then year 3 etc. They recommended I just run it up to 12k and they would do any 'annual' checks on that service. My main concern was to keep the warranty intact so I hope they are right:confused:

I am ashamed to say much the same. 7500 K's in 2 years. But have two other bikes M'lud! Had to get it serviced to comply with the warranty to get the front cover done FOC. Told CW in Dorchester to just do it. They didn't need asking twice. £260 inc brake fluid change. The plan is to do it all myself now, anyway like the others. The annoying thing is the service indicator on the dash. Could put a plaster over it I suppose :eek!

Fluff

That's my excuse as well - my scooter does more mileage than my 'posh bike' these days:rolleyes:

Yep, bloody annoying - they forgot to reset mine last service, so its been on for the last year!!! You ignore it in the end, certainly wasn't worth the hassle of taking it back in .

A good dealer

When my previous GS was 2 years old & coming to the end of its garantee it was not due for a service. I asked the dealerfor his advice. he just said "give me the key," hopped on the bike and 15 minutes later came back and said "don't bother." It gave no problems at all in the following two years and I only changed it for a 2008 model becaus......no, I still can't imagine why!
