Hi all looking to get crash bars for my GS1200 are the BMW bars any good? and what price are they?

Touratech are good - can be a bit awkward to fit and cost twice as much - but they're stainless and will comfortably absorb a standstill drop AND a 50mph touchdown scrape without distorting or corroding :thumb

Crash bars

I have the standard BMW ones and they look solid and 'right'on the bike. Haven't tried them out although I've had the 1200 for a year. I did however drop my 1150 a few times ( a much easier thing to do) and the standard BMW bars stood up well. Every time (not too often) that I have traded in my BMW I have managed to get the standard accessories changed - tank bag, panniers, crash bars etc. at no cost. Worth taking into consideration ? sw- Motech ones for me too. Easy to fit, look good and very substantial.

£96 from Norm

A little question

I went for the SW Motech ones at roughly £100 and they work!! :thumb

Bought some SW Motech bars for my 12. A small question - in the photo below what size torque key do you need for where I've positioned the arrow? [I am right in thinking that's where they attach at the back, right? Haven't found the instructions super clear.]

As an aside - about tools, are there certain tools (like torque keys) that are really worth having that I wouldn't normally have in my tool kit - I have all the smaller sized torques, for example, but nothing that size.

Cheers.

Its the biggest size in my 'Draper Expert' splined drive socket toolkit, Torx 55 I think. Machine mart also sell the kits in the UK and owning one is invaluable for any work on a modern bike/car.

This toolkit is identical to my Draper one, and cheaper too though it probably comes from the same factory:

Cheers for that - they want £34 to send that kit to France - think I'll look locally. :D
