Has anyone else who has a 1200GS and uses the BMW GS1 boot, stood up off road and split the seat each side? BMW have already replaced it once and as soon as I went off road again and stood up, it spilt. They are trying to say they’ve not seen this before. When I was on the BMW off road event in Wales every R1200GS seat was spit in the same place. Nearly everyone on the course wore the GS1 boots.

Others in the forum have had similar problems with these boots, try a search, I remember reading about this in the past few weeks.

Try moccassins, or boat shoes.

Pipe and slippers maybe ?

OK, got my coat.

My seat split both sides due to me standing up and having a little off road fun. BMW technical at HQ in Bracknell claimed it was wear and tear but siad they would replace it a a mayyer of goodwill. It's only going to split again and so I intend to have a 'proper' cover fitted by a local chap I know. He does all the work for Williams F1 etc and has superb materials and great craftsmanship. Will let you know the outcome.

Yes please Mel. Don’t want too spend £150 on a new seat just so I a have the old one to use off road. Just shows it's a design fault if it's not just me!!!!

A similar thing happened to my seat and I don't wear these boots, go off road and rarely stand up. In my case I noticed a very, very small split starting at the lowest point of the seat where the covering material is stretched incredibly tightly over the plastic base. I had my seat changed under warranty before the problem spread too far.

To me it looked as though the plastic seat base had a rough edge and the relative motion between the covering and this rough edge was gradually wearing through the covering until it started to split. Along with this weakness any extra rubbing from boots it likely to speed up the wear process.
