got mcn today and seen new gs ..........looks crap the plastic shrouds over the petrol tank look awful just the first impressions arnt good and that what makes it dissapointing i wonder if its going to be the same as the new pan everyone prefers the old one

i'm not so sure about that - i'm reading it now and i think it looks pretty darn good meself....

and if MCN have got their info correct - it's a pretty major upgrade as well; much lighter, new(ish) engine, more power, new GEARBOX!!, redesigned ADJUSTABLE SCREEN - (that covers most of the things we moan about here), new swingarm, no separate cat, new frame... god the list in endless!! i'm getting all excited now!

pr0ne

oh, and on the whole aesthetically it's still very recognisably the GS we know and love as well....

oh, and there's a 'special' being produced as well - apparently its made entirely of tianium/magnezium, has diamond-encrusted clocks, comes with free fuel and a life-time guarantee - all for 37 pence. its called the GSanguine.... boom boom!!

sorry sanguine - you've had a hard day, but i couldn't resist ;-)

I like the new upside down pillion seat concept. A first for bmw

All a bit Multistrada...........to me.

The gap between rear wheel and rear subframe looks about 2' - should be enough for US AMA Supercross with that amount of travel................but piss all weather protection.

I'll wait and see...............think I'll just pick my new ADV1150 in the Spring and let the 'dust settle' for a bit..............nothing spoiling............the 1200 GS will still be availble in 2005/2006 and by then we'll see it it's any good or not.................

Could go either way.............the greatest road going GS ever or a bit of a lemon.................

I've lost count how many times MCN have got it wrong or artists impressions that look nothing like the finished product. And manufacturers have a habit of disgusing (or trying to) their new
bikes especially before any launch date.

I''ll wait for the release photo's first.

IF Motor Cycle News have got the right pic this time,I think I like it-there I've said it:eek: Would like to see it "in the metal" though

Their blurb says 3 versions will eventually be available,a "regular GS" an "Adventure" version with beefed up suspension etc,and a more "road oriented" version with alloy wheels and road rubber-a super motard gs?
Me? I'm in no rush to change,my Adventure is 1 year old and I love it,mind you the prospect of a few more ponies and a lot less weight is a tempting one-wonder how much to change?

;)

1200

DONT BE FOOLING YOURSELVES

YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEARTS AND SOULS THAT THE NEW 1200 WILL BE A BIG IMPROVMENT ON THE CURRENT MODEL,
PERSONALLY IF I INTENDED COLLECTING A NEW OLD MODEL IN MARCH I WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT THE PRICE AT LEAST WAS COMPHENSATING ME FOR NOT BEING UP TO DATE AND HAVING AN INSTANT OLD MODEL.

The new model will be an improvement on the old one, of course people will say it looks crap or not as good as the current one, but that's only because they've not got the new one in their garage! By the middle of next year all the owners of the 1200GS will be praising it, hopefully i will be one of them. It's just progress, and that's happening all the time.

Agreed, I'll no doubt end up with an R1200GS, but in 2 years when the hype has worn off.

No kidding.... The only way I'd have an 1150 Adventure in my garage in spring is if I got a killer deal buying it used from someone trading up for the new 1200.

Having got a copy of MCN, I noticed that the review (and warnings about MCN accuracy noted) says that the riders weight will be positioned further forward, and that this will be done by moving the bars forward. I like the upright position on the 1150GS, which means there is no great weight on my hands, and I'm not sure that I would want this arrangement changed.

I hope MCN are wrong with this.

Here you go

Hi Henk have a look HERE you will find all the pictures and previous spy shots.

i have been confrimed by a very good source that the uk is probably gonna be the country where the new gs will be sold at first and this explains y only in the uk bmw-dealers are accepting bookings on the new machine.
here in italy dealers arent even considering waiting lists and launch is confrimed march/april 2004 not before

Interesting pix, Gazza. Thanks!

I read the commentary in MCN about a 'backbone' chassis in the existing models.

Rides Opinion

Just posted .THIS on my smugmug site, latest write up from Ride Mag. Looks like Bologna show in December is another place they say they are showing the bike. MCN in Wednesday issue also say the bike will be at Londons Ally Pally in late January 04. Seems we will have to wait a little longer for confirmed dates
