1200GSA make it a leetle shorter!!

OK I am on standard seat and shocks but am on tip toe with no luggage, I like seat to pegs ratio so dont really wanna lower seat.
Whats the most cost effective way to reduce height by about an inch or so?

Lower the seat AND the pegs.

Have the seat reshaped to reduce the width. This stop your legs from splaying out when trying to put your feet on the floor and should help by an inch or so. Someone I'm sure will be along to recommend a re-upholsterer soon!

If all your pre-load is wound up already, I guess you could swap your shocks with a GS - they raised the GSA about an 1" over the GS IIRC.

Convert it to motard spec with smaller wheels?

Could always let all the air out of the tyres. Won't handle very well but should drop it about an inch (he said unhelpfully).

Should be alright coz tyres will only be flat on the bottom

Cheapest way.....

Slacken off the rear preload and make the suspension softer.

and/or

strap a breeze block to the carry rack!



Other options will cost you money... how much do you want to spend?

I may have the wrong end of the stick here BUT...

When I buy a bike, or a car for that matter, one of things that determines whether i buy it is whether it fits my physical dimensions - if it doesn't I wont buy it.

Seems to me all this talk about raising/lowering is missing the point : I'd have thought the best course of action is to buy something that fits in the first place. For example the R1200ST has a much lower seat height

Surely no one would buy a car if they found that the roof height meant that their head was permanently hitting the roof and then so conversely nor would I buy a bike on which my feet couldn't touch the ground...

If you'd like a GS and you've got Ducks Disease, you could get a 650 GS, but if you want a 12GS then the only solution is to somehow lower it.

I've got to agree with Phil here, you like what you like. Just because it isnt perfect for you doesnt mean you want it any less. The same is true for cars, but the beauty with cars is that most things are a lot more configurable.

1) Pete, my feet touch the ground for normal road riding however Id like to go off-road and would like to be a bit more flat footed. (should have joined the police!)
2) I considered an ST but doctors found I still had a pulse
3) Car roofs? depends on thr car!!!

Lots of people buy completely unsuitable cars for exactly the same reasons that bike people buy unsuitable bikes. Simply because they like them and can afford to take the chance. As a car fan also I keep the odd eye on the cage world. Re heads and roofs, take Jeremy Clarkson as an example. He is so tall that he couldn't close the door on the Ford GT40 due to its roof height of 40 inches. Didn't stop him lusting after one though. As soon as they built one that he thought would fit, the Ford GT, he bought one. Didn't really fit him and he couldn't get to work on a full tank of fuel, but he bought it anyway.

How suitable are all the Chelsea tractors on the school run? They only off-roading 99.99% of them do is bouncing up onto a particularly high kerb outside the school to drop off Darragh to his fee paying school or negotiating the gravel to drop Sorcha off to pony camp.

Suitable? I don't think so. Freedom of choice? Absolutely. Now where did I put that soapbox?
