12GS rear wheel skipping?

Hi all, does anybody else suffer from the rear wheel "skipping" sideways under hard acceleration, it always snaps back and drives onwards without any to much danger, is this just a "feature" of shaft drive?all my other bike have been chain, great bike tho, just keep it pinned! (its on OE tyres)

It's not the wheel moving around on the hub if its got a bit of wear on it, is it?, give the wheel a wiggle to see if it's loose just to eliminate it from the equation.

This is called overwhelming the grip of your tire through the application of too much torque. Be a little more gentle with your throttle hand and it won't happen anymore.

I also had that happen to me the other day and I just thought it was my imagination I just accepted it and rode on.. but I do get a rubbing in the rear when I accelerate through a turn. Could be the rear mud gaurd but i still havn't found what it could be...

After checking that the wheel isn't loose or anything else, check your tyre pressures are OK, and then you might want to consider screwing in some more preload as it seems most of us ride with quite a lot of preload on the bike.

I can feel my rear wheel grasping for grip quite often - part of the fun!

I reckon you lot are riding different 1200 to me. The bloody things aren't powerful enough (on a dry non debris strewn road with OE tires) to spin the back wheel. Perhaps a bout of cack handed riding methinks?

It definitely won't spin up in the dry.....I've tried!! However, if you do get a slight undulation in the road, or some debris, you will get the 'skipping' that you describe. It does feel different to other bikes I've owned, but I've taken it to be because of the high unspung weight of the shaft drive system.

I have had a similar thing happen to me. I read a post last week somewhere, where the guy took his to the garage with the same complaint and the mechanic said it was the clutch slipping under extreme load due to the clutch lever slightly touching the hand guard. When I looked at mine sure enough there was contact so I adjusted the hand guard.
I was pleased there was a simple solution but pi**ed off that I wasn't a race god after all.

I've had slight spin on my bike but it was while lent over coming out of a tight left hander, so must be a really small contact patch... was damn good fun though!
