12K service costs.

Is there anything stopping you from doing the oil and filter changes, pads and a check on fixtures and fittings before taking it for the rest of the service? Must we pay over the top for oil when we can do the job ourselves?
Just asking - no flaming please

I was chatting to mechanic at local dealer last w/e. He said he has never needed to check/adjust valves on a WC.

Have always found service schedules rather enigmatic! Took my 'R' in for annual service at 5000mls and was told I needed to return for 6000ml sevice which seemed barmy to me. Spoke to BMW and they said it was up to individual dealers to do as they thought necessary. Hmm! The lists Jim attached above are mainly to check all the vital wear and tear systems which should not take much time/money. BUT, if anything needs further attention then that costs more. Most of us are capable of doing much of this ourselves but the matter of warranty issues takes over so we pay up. In reality it costs alot tonrun a service dept. and dealers are not charities!

My GSA LC has now done 28,000 miles, valve clearances checked at 12,000 and 24,000 no adjustment needed so far.

Plugs changed at 12,000 and 24,000 otherwise just oil and filter, air filter is a washable KN which I do myself before sending in for the service.

Now that's a proper mileage in under a year!:bow

Totally agree David re cost of units between Cotswold and Mike/Tim. I guess it comes down to if you take your bike in for a mechanic to work on it or to enjoy a few hours in different values of buildings. Cotswold is a far more salubrious experience, but IMHO and experience I paid more and got less, including damage to my bike (which to their credit Cotswold sorted).

Its the old "you pays your money and takes your choice"
It matters to BMW or they wouldn't of dumped BVM... I think I heard correctly but forgive me if I'm wrong but Cotsworld are building a new dealership just outside Cheltenham that will be the bigest dealership in Europe....it may be in UK but I'm sure they said Europe .
.I know when I saw Mike a bit back he needed a fortnights notice, just a heads up... Good luck with it all.

The new dealership is aiming to be the second biggest in the UK, with a £15 million investment in total (cars, Mini & Motorrad) Mike at Stroud is indeed a very good mechanic, & will be servicing my GSA in the spring.

Can you remember what you were charged for the 12k and 24k services ?
