Which one would be the most reliable and easiest to look after regarding all home servicing.

Either can be reliable…or a bag of shit…down to previous care…. . No real difference in service at home. Both straightforward. Only thing with the Fi is you need more tech to do any “tuning”, but they don’t go “out of tune” really. … but you know all this, right?

I’d say, having had both …. The same.

TC is probably less likely to split its Y piece (exhaust) or lose it’s shit via the lower base gasket..

Post MM FI is rock sold as we know….

My Carb TC runs a dream….. mostly……🤣

I ran a 1340 for nine years from new - thousands of Euro miles, I honestly can't remember the exact mileage. An absolute doddle to look after, probably about as simple as a twin cylinder, four stroke motorbike can be to service. NOTHING went wrong with it as such but it did like a really good battery to start it in freezing weather - probably not a problem out your way. One great motorbike.

One tip. Make sure it's good and warm before thrashing it - base gaskets.

I can't comment on the TC.

Out of the three Harleys I had, it was my twin cam FXDX Super glide Sport that let me down. It had a camshaft bearing failure at approx 20,000miles IIRC, but it was a known problem on early models, as was cam chain tensioner issues on the early ones.

I learnt hard on batteries…. Then just paid up and bought a Harley one..

Was perfect till the day I killed it… ( The bike, not the battery)

He’s talking about a couple of generations on. A 103.

Thanks. (y)
I have forgotten much! I thought it was the case, but checking is always good to do...I was looking for the 1690 because of the six speed box over the 5 on the evo and was pretty sure they were both pretty good when it it came to reliability and servicing ease.

Over here there seems to be little difference in price in the used market for either model...One day I will get my noggin around the prices for vehicles here.:D I think Evo`s are silly prices because they are relatively rare.

I'd say 2014+ 1690 if you can. I think they had premature compensator wear resolved by then and most feel Rushmore's are then best of the Twin Cams, they certainly run the best. Otherwise any of the 103's.

We, my wife and I, both ride Evos.
We went all over Alaska and most of the lower 48 states with no problems.
I burned out my rear cylinder o-rings in Colorado but I stripped her down, got a rebore and rebuilt her, and all has been fine since then.
Easy, old school, to work on!
