Hi all
I have bought a set of cast wheels (no tyres) from a K1200RS to fit on my 1100GS (94). The rear is a 5.5", and from what I have read the recommended tyre fitment for this is a 180/55/17. My question is whether this will foul the swingarm ?. Can I safely fit a 170 profile tyre to the 5.5" rim instead ?. Will this be sufficient to clear the swingarm/shaft drive ?
Need the answer before I go and buy tyres for it

If anyone has done this, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks :beerjug:

180 fits fine, plenty clearance

your wheels

Fergus,

I would like to do the same to my bike. Where did you get them and how much did you pay? Does your bike have abs? Do they fitt straight on and will the speedo work ok?

I won the wheels on e-bay. I just received them yesterday and did a dummy-fit last night.

It does affect my speedo drive as the K1200 takes its drive elsewhere (not from the front wheel). Also, the front wheel I received has no threads for the ABS hub so I will do without that (I prefer not having ABS anyway). I will fit a cheap electronic bicycle speedo for when I have the alloy wheels on (summer months).

The wheels came with no discs or spacers so I bought some discs and new disc mounting bolts from Motorworks. There is also a spacer (approx 1" long) you will need to buy to take up the space that the GS's speedo drive does (on the LHS) and also a 2mm spacer for the rear wheel. The RHS front wheel spacer can be re-used from the GS but I ordered another one of them anyway seeing that they are so cheap.
I ordered all of these today from my local dealer for about 4euro each.
I should have the whole assembly complete by the end of next week and I'll take some photos of the install then - maybe even attempt to put together a how-to guide once I have it all figured out.
By the way, I paid £280 Stg for the two wheels including shipping costs from London to Cork. Not too bad. The wheels are in excellent condition.

Fergus..So have you taken the GS around Mondello yet?

Sounds to me like you'll be selling your share in your Mondello track bike for a GS Turbo kit soon..

Mondello tool

Nope...no need to. This is my tool for Mondello Park. A friend of mine & I bought it together last summer. We have slicks, tyre warmers etc etc. It goes very very well despite it's age. Its a 1996 GSXR750 WT.

The GS is a wee bit too large for Mondello.........
