There's been so much written about the good and bad of servo brakes, but I still can't find any comments on the following.

My rear brake seems to be self-applying and/or sticking on, even when I've got off and parked the bike with the ignition on (to open a garage door). Yet when I turn off the ignition with the key and then switch it on again, all resets fine (meaing that at a minimum, the brake lever/pedal isn't staying on, otherwise I'd get various warning lights).

My question is this. Has anyone any experience of this and if so, if this is as simple as a faulty rear brake pedal switch (which doesn't look to be carrying any grit or excessive grime). I'm due to visit my local dealership later today, however, I don't relish the prospect (and price) of a new servo unit - which admittantly may not be required. Just wondering if anyone has been down this sticking brake road before.

Cheers

Jonny

question

does the brake light come on? When the brake applies itself on its own?

Would possibly be ABS problem if fitted!

Mate had similar problem and it was ABS related.

The only symptom even close to this that I ran into with my R1100S was corrosion around the slide pins in the rear caliper. Which caused the rear pads to not spring back correctly resulting in the rear brake being applid to the disk. The warning sensors on the ABS/Servo system never detected a problem, but I could feel resistence to movement of the wheel (and at least once acceleration) However your issue sounds different.

Initially I ended up paying a dealer to sort it out, but as I ride in the winter it happened again so I ended up just popping the caliper off the wheel and dismounting the pads to clean the slide pins and check piston movement before re-assembly. Note be very careful if checking pistion movement with the pads removed that you do not let the pistons slide right out as brake fluid everywhere is not a good idea.
