I'm trying to sell my Street Bob, its been advertised on several HD Forums, on here, local papers and Gum Tree, but so far apart from a few time wasters asking irrelevant questions, i have had zero interest.

Im looking £6500 for it and really do not want to take any less, it has 23k miles on it, which I been told by one enquirer is abnormally high milage for a 10 year old bike and therefore worth £ks less? Thats nothing for an HD! it has £ks worth of subtle extras on it (stage 2 tune etc) wheels, exhaust, forwards the list goes on. Its in denim black, its not a shed and is in excellent condition for its age.

My question to the collective:

Am I being unrealistic with the price, It seems to be in around the going rate if you look at ebay etc?

I don't think the mileage or the price are the issue, as long as the bike is in the condition you say. I think there could be a few things you could look at:

  • Think about where you are advertising. I have never looked at GumTree for example as it tends to be bargain bikes IMHO
  • Look at the wording of the advert. Is there something in there that is putting people off?
  • Look at your photographs and compare them to other competitors. Are they showing the bike off well?
  • When have you been advertising it? It's bloody cold and snowing at the moment so unfaired HDs are hardly top of everyone's shopping list.
  • Unfortunately you can't move but Scotland isn't exactly central to the UK market I'm afraid. Some buyers won't travel so you may have to price better to attract.

Best of luck with the sale :thumb

An eBay classified usually works for me and is good value at approx 18 quid for a 28 day advert.

You need to have good large photos and a detailed description,

If you are out in the sticks do you have a mate who lives some where more accessible who would be willing to help you sell it from his place?

I'd say the price was right.... my only comment is the wheels may be limiting your market. I fancy a Street Bob and in fact enquired after yours, it's just that I prefer the std Spoke wheels on that model.

its a case of waiting for the right buyer I feel...

I don't know your bike so I'm going entirely on what I have read in your description above....

As has already been said, an ebay classified ad' is a good idea....From memory I have sold seven or eight bikes with ebay classified ads, no issues.....including at least one Harley....possible two over a few years.

Have you had it from new, if not do you have any of the original parts ??

If so, remove all the custom bits and put it back to as standard condition as possible. Lots of people (myself included) don't like modified bikes and definitely won't be paying a premium for one....Your idea of 'Custom' is my idea of 'Fecked about with' However, EVERYONE likes an immaculate 'clean canvas' of a bike.

Then get it super clean, NOT an hour with a bucket and sponge, I mean like really really clean....underneath, under mudguards, the lot.....Twats like me WILL be looking...

Then advertise it as so ..'Dead clean, unmoleted standard condition' etc. Look at 'Completed listings' for ACTUAL SALES of your model of bike on ebay and then price your's around the average 'Sold At' price. Get some decent photos....NOT a few snaps off the iPhone. I can't stress enough how much a decent advert will not take five minutes they are bloody time consuming, but a thrown together ad' INDICATES that you are a thrown together person....and the bike is POSSIBLY a shed.

Sell off the custom parts separately....a bit of a ball ache but do you want rid or not ??...

Just my opinion but I've never been stuck with a bike.....Good luck.....:thumb2

One more thing.....I would not blink an eye viewing a Harley with that sort of mileage...and neither would any GENUINE buyer....(IMHO)....
