2008 GS 1200 I Cant Get Fuel Tank Back On ??

Every ounce of my 40 year engineering background told me that placing a quick grip clamp/spreader between the offending tank mount hole and a conveniently placed frame tube was the wrong thing to do. It worked a treat and the misaligned holes came round to my way of thinking. I now subscribe completely to the misshapen plastic tank theory. If I could work out how to post a photo, I would. Thanks for the comments and help.

Mate of mine had a 1980s Triumph something or other with a plastic tank. Whenever he removed it, it was impossible to refit to the bike due to ethanol distortion. His solution was to buy a spare tank. Once the tank had been drained and off the bike for a few weeks it returned to its original shape and therefore ready to pop back onto the bike. So his tanks were alternated; one was being used whilst the other was "drying" out! Simples!
