Was in garage today to get autocom looked it.

There are now TWO recalls on 08 model GS/GSA. Contact your dealer for it to be done.

Recall 1 - Software update
It prevents a FLAT SPOT when acccelerating. Not really noticed one to be honest, but someone on here mentioned it in another thread.

When it gets done .. your temp gauge might show -36 degrees
Just ride home. Mine sorted itself out on the way home. Need to check again to see if it reoccurs. Known issue with update :D

Recall 2 - HEATED GRIPS
Not software fix BUT AN ENTIRE GRIP CHANGE, then they will apply software udpate. This update just came through Bracknell to the dealers TODAY.

Get your BEST MOTORCYCLE IN THE WORLD even better by getting these recall sorted :D

UNSTOPPABLE! ... :D

Yep ! :D
It's not an official recall. If you have a service planned within a couple of months or so, the software upgrade will be done by the dealer anyway. Also applies to late 07 models I have understood by now.

My 08 GSA is in for it's first service today and the heated grips are a known problem - dealers need to order in the new heated grips and change them which only became official yesteday. I will have to book mine back in to have this done. Lucky I live around the corner from Pidcocks :augie

Pidcocks recon that mine did not need the software update as it only effects the first batch of 1200 GS/GSA's. Mine was delivered on the 12 of March.

Replacement heated grips on order.

I got a software update a few weeks ago as I had a stalling issue with no other obvious cause (besides me, of course). I don't know if it is the extra mileage or the update but the bike feels a lot smoother on gear changes since.

Also had something done to the rear brake LEDs as a part of a recall. Apparently the brake lights may have been going on without brakes being applied.

What is the problem with the grips :nenau

On mine.

1. Occassionally it does not turn on
2. When it does turn on it does not get very hot (compared it to another BM on the recent trip)

In their official email it says customers have experienced that the grips turn on but loses heat because the grips turns itself off.

But Wapping is right from a functionality standpoint. My pinkies were cold when I was hoping they would be warm :(

Got my draft letter

From Bahnstormer this morning - Not sure I will bother taking in it specially for the upgrade as they are saying in the letter they will need 2 hours to do the software amends (FFS even Microsoft Vista only takes 20 minutes to install!)

Have never noticed a flat spot , and am not using the Heated grips at the moment and hopefully it will be getting warmer anyway , they did fail 2 weeks ago however when it was showing -7c on the Temp gauge - now that WAS cold.

So going to wait for the 6k service I reckon .....

And.... how would you like the computer that controls your engine, brakes, lights, other fancy stuff....

To be as reliable as Microsoft Vista?.... :augie

Al...

Also received my recall notice from Bahnstormer this week but was in on the 22nd March for a new pannier seal to be fitted and they did the update then.

It does take two hours ! Glad they have coffee and biccys there :thumb2

Bike seems to be smoother since - particularly around 4-4.5k revs though maybe it's just getting run in after 3600miles?

No problems with me heated grips though, toasty :bounce1

My bike 1200GSA is due to be built mid April and ready for collection around 1st May. Will all the known recall stuff be done on the build or are BMW delivering with work to do?

Your dealer would be the one to ask I would have thought, Mine was delivered last week with the current level of software.

Spoke to the dealer today (Southport Superbikes) and they have said the bikes will be built 'up to date' so only new ones to deal with after the build. If something comes up between build and delivery the dealer will sort it before I will collect it.:thumb

November 07 GS

Dealer advised some VIN Numbers are on advice for a problem with the knock sensor. Just advised on Friday. My November build was in the advice

No recall notice from my "purchasing" dealer .. but my servicing dealer did the update and will do the grips when I take it in for the 6000 service in the next couple of weeks.

Wonder if my bike wasnt on the list of recall bikes or the purchasing dealer is a bit crap :nenau
