No Update

I've got City Navigator Europe 2008 Delxue DVD as latest map on my 2610, in "My Garmin" says no other updates!

Interesting.

Not only have I managed to order the disc, I seem to have acquired an unlock code without paying for it.

I was going through the order process to see how much it cost, it threw up an error and then gave me a code.

So we`re looking at about £90/ £100  Now it puts into the running of an extra £150 or so to buy a complete new GPS (2820 etc) or just keep with my CN7 when I finally get the bloody thing downloaded onto my pc

I don`t think it`s worth the £100 or so to upgrade it to CN9

Just been though the motions for an upgrade for my Quest to City Nav 2009 (same mapping as the 2610) and I get a price of $75, not sure what the 'best price' thing is :nenau , maybe I'm special :D

For my 2720 I can buy a download update of City Nav Europe NT 2009 for £59.99. Additionally, as it was originally a US device I get the option of buying the upgrade to the USA mapping as well. This comes in at £58.74.

I also have a Garmin i3 with UK mapping, the update to this is the full City Nav Europe NT 2009 DVD and also costs $75.

My new phone also has TomTom on it, we're getting a bit overrun with GPSRs in this house....

The 2720 is on 2008 and the phone mapping is current so I'll be holding off on any updates from Garmin until 2010.

Hi Steve, i did get an error message too, is the code 28 digits long (mix of numbers and letters)?

Thanks

Mysterious: I phoned Garmin to clarify, they said first that there were no updates for my unit, when I asked why the web site said there was they said it could not because the updates were not out yet. When I asked if they could just double-check my records because it seemed that what their web site was saying was at odds with what they said, they told me that the updates had just been announced, so would put an order in for me.

Needless to say I did not have much confidence in any of the above, yet lo-and-behold, my postie has just handed me a brand spanking new Mapsource Update DVD for City Navigator Europe 2009.

I hope this version has the Spanish roads in the right place

And, surprisingly, it works! :thumb

dose anyone know how long from ordering to delivery? ordered one weeks ago or at least i think i did.can never tell with garmin, one minute you can get update next time you check you cant.

Garmin really suck:eek
  • According to half their site the 2610 is out of date and can only get middle East maps now
  • City Navigator for Europe is though compatible with 2610 (according to other bits of the same Garmin Site)
  • The Garmin site does not say what version of City Navigator it is selling now anywhere on site that I can see. I already have version 8 and update DVD 9
  • The "My Garmin" part of the web site thinks I have USA maps unlocked on my 2610 yet I have never had any USA maps and only have European maps.
  • When I go to buy Europe City Navigator it converts the purchase to USA maps (version 8) which it thinks I already have. I think it may give me an unlock code for the USA for free
  • The date on which Garmin thinks I registered the products is exactly a year out.
  • Despite having the correct unit serial number appearing on the "My Garmin" part of the site the unit ID for the same unit is completely wrong.

Oh did I say I think Garmin suck:mad:

Ordered mine a fortnight ago, told "4-6 weeks delivery..."

A friend has lent me an unopened 2009 DVD, can I install and unlock that and still use my disc when it arrives as back-up? Or will there be unlock code/disc issues?

CoGS

Yes Garmin can be a pain but they can also be very nice. Had two repairs done on my GPS12 FOC and just had my 2610 replaced with a shiny, refurbed unit for £49 :)
